Innovation Director
Dr. César Velasco, M.D., Ph.D., is a specialist in preventive medicine and public health with over 15 years of international experience. As Head of Strategy and Digital Innovation at AstraZeneca Spain, he connects healthcare ecosystems with AstraZeneca’s R&D to tackle health challenges. His career highlights include roles at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, WHO during the Ebola outbreak, and leadership positions at Vall d’Hebron Hospital, where he introduced transformative care models. He has also held executive roles in Catalonia’s Health Department and led innovation at Novartis. César holds a medical degree, a Ph.D. cum laude from the University of Barcelona, and advanced degrees from ESADE, Pompeu Fabra, and Harvard Business School. With expertise in digital health, AI, and Health Technology Assessment, he advises WHO on Ebola vaccination and has published widely on vaccines, public health, and HIV.
