Emilia-Romagna is one of the most developed regions in Italy, with a strong manufacturing sector, the most effective health system in Italy and an advanced regional research and innovation ecosystem. Since 2002, starting from the approval of Regional Law 7/2002 aimed at promoting research and innovation at the regional level, the E-R Region has implemented a series of actions aimed at developing a regional innovation ecosystem capable of supporting competitiveness and transformation of the production systems. Continuous commitment in the R&I policies, taking advantage of matching regional resources with European resources (Structural Funds and other EU resources), have supported over two decades investments in research and development, leading to the setting up of a strongly networked regional innovation and research ecosystem, characterised by excellent research and training institutions, a strong productive system and remarkable research innovation and technology transfer infrastructures located throughout the region (High Technology Network, Technopoles, regional Clust-ERs).
