36 Innovative Projects Compete in PRECISEU Open Call for Joint Inter-Regional Projects

The PRECISEU Open Call for joint interregional projects closed on 15 June 2026, attracting strong interest from across Europe. In total, 36 applications were submitted, bringing together 185 participating entities and requesting €52.1 million in total funding.

The call aimed to support joint projects that strengthen interregional collaboration and accelerate the implementation of personalised medicine across European ecosystems. The results show a strong pipeline of proposals, with an average consortium size of 5.1 entities per proposal and an average funding request of €1.58 million.

Health data leads the application pipeline

Health data emerged as the dominant topic among submitted applications. Out of the 36 proposals received:

  • 19 applications focused on Health Data;
  • 7 applications focused on Advanced Therapeutics;
  • 6 applications addressed both topics;
  • 2 applications were considered non-eligible.

This distribution confirms the strategic importance of health data for the future of personalised medicine, while also showing continued interest in advanced therapeutics and cross-topic approaches.

Strong interregional participation

The open call attracted proposals coordinated by several European regions. Catalonia led with 13 coordinating applications, followed by Lazio with 5, Emilia-Romagna with 4, Baden-Württemberg with 4, Crete with 2, Lithuania with 2 and Ireland with 2.

Partner participation was also broad. The highest number of partner entries came from Catalonia with 61, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 30, Emilia-Romagna with 24, Lazio with 23, Ireland with 12, Crete with 9, Castilla-La Mancha with 7, Lithuania with 6, North-East Romania with 4, and Non-EU / Horizon Associated Countries with 2.

Diverse participation across the innovation ecosystem

The submitted proposals reflect the multi-stakeholder nature of personalised medicine implementation. The participating entities include:

  • 61 SMEs;
  • 40 research organisations / RTOs;
  • 31 universities;
  • 22 hospitals / healthcare providers;
  • 9 public bodies;
  • 8 NGOs / foundations;
  • 7 companies;
  • 4 university / hospital entities.

Overall, the open call recorded 68 SME partner entries and 111 non-SME partner entries, confirming the important role of SMEs while also showing strong engagement from research, healthcare, public and ecosystem actors. Consortium sizes ranged from 1 to 11 entities, with an average of 5.1 entities per proposal, showing both focused and larger collaborative approaches.

Funding demand and project duration

The total funding requested reached €52.1 million. By region, the highest funding requests came from:

  • Catalonia: €21.23 million;
  • Baden-Württemberg: €10.57 million;
  • Lazio: €5.98 million;
  • Ireland: €3.95 million;
  • Emilia-Romagna: €3.30 million;
  • Castilla-La Mancha: €2.57 million;
  • Crete: €2.55 million;
  • Other regions: €0.68 million.

Evaluation process and next steps

Following the closure of applications on 15 June, the evaluation process moved into the eligibility and assessment phase. The eligibility review and conflict-of-interest process started on 16 June, with declarations received on 18 June. Proposals were assigned on 19 June and sent to evaluators on 22 June.

The next steps include receiving evaluator scores and reports by 15 July, followed by the evaluator panel on 20 July, the Call Secretariat funding decision on 23 July and final validation by 31 July. The evaluation process is supported by experts from several European regions, including Italy, Romania, Ireland, Germany, Crete, Catalonia, Spain and Lazio.

Building stronger interregional collaboration in personalised medicine

The strong response to the PRECISEU Open Call reflects the need for more connected European ecosystems in personalised medicine. The number and diversity of applications show that regions, SMEs, research organisations, healthcare providers and public bodies are ready to work together on practical solutions that can support the deployment of health data and advanced therapeutics.
